Heaven is referred to as three different distinct things in the Bible. The translation from the Greek or the original Hebrew is the same word but having a different meaning depending upon the passage. These three distinct heavens are not unlike the Trinity of God, The father, God The son, and God the Holy Ghost. The three heavens are the same in that if we say heaven we can mean one heaven or all three heaven's combined.
The three heavens are the sky what we look up to, which is the lower firmament of our atmosphere. This is where we see clouds and blue sky. The second heaven which is outer space and this is the upper firmament. This is where the planets and the stars and space exist. The third heaven being the heaven above both previous mentioned heaven's which is where the throne of God resides and in the company of God. To be in God's presence in his home is to be in heaven. So Heaven most often in the Bible is generally referred to as the company of God. Sometimes it is referred to as all the heavens including the company of God, The sky and outer space as God sits above all of it.
